Austin, Texas, February 5, 2019 – Hanger, Inc. today announced it has become the first full-service U.S.-based orthotics and prosthetics (O&P) provider to acquire the HP Multi Jet Fusion 3D printing technology. Both companies will work closely to determine best uses for the 3D printing manufacturing technology in current processes and explore new, disruptive designs and solutions for the O&P industry.
“As a leader in O&P, we are continually evaluating and encouraging innovative solutions to further advance our industry,” said Hanger President and CEO Vinit Asar. “We believe 3D printing and automation will be important in the future of O&P, and we’re dedicating resources and talent to exploring these new possibilities.”
A HP Jet Fusion 4200 3D printer was recently delivered to Hanger’s Fabrication Network facility in Tempe, Arizona where leaders from Hanger will continue partnering with HP. This will include validation testing of existing O&P devices that could be produced with 3D printing, as well as testing new, never-before-created designs made possible through this technology, all while ensuring the components and devices are safe and effective for patients.
“After years of exploring and testing how 3D printing can best benefit our patients and the O&P industry, we were excited to see this offering from HP,” said Aaron Flores, PhD, Hanger Clinic Vice President, who is responsible for the company’s product development and fabrication network. “This is the first time we’ve seen a 3D printing option with the durability, speed, and price point that we feel can be beneficial on a larger scale in O&P, and ultimately, result in more efficient care delivery.”
The HP Multi Jet Fusion technology creates parts additively thanks to a multi-agent printing process, offering more possibilities for complex, lower cost parts. HP’s technology can create fully customized end-use parts with voxel level design capabilities, up to 10 times faster than other 3D printing technologies, making it an ideal match for industries such as O&P, where customization is key to patients’ wellbeing and satisfaction.
