AUSTIN, TX- September 15, 2026- Point Designs today announced the launch of the Merge MID, a custom body-powered prosthesis designed specifically for patients with middle-phalanx amputations of digits 2–5. While approximately 13,000 patients per year experience middle-segment amputations, fewer than 4% currently receive a prosthetic solution. Merge MID represents a breakthrough in addressing this clinical gap, bringing proven prosthetic engineering to body-powered solutions that work seamlessly with patients’ residual anatomy.

The Merge MID is intended for patients with amputations through the middle phalanx of digits 2–5 who retain sufficient residual finger length and active PIP joint motion to drive the prosthesis. Point Designs’ clinical team reviews patient measurements and photographs to confirm candidacy and ensure the best possible outcomes.

How it Works:

  • The Merge MID uses the remaining proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint motion to drive and reproduce distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint motion. As the residual finger bends and straightens, the prosthesis moves intuitively through flexion and extension—providing natural, body-powered control without external power sources or complex training requirements.
  • The Merge MID mirrors natural finger motion and positioning with a low-profile design that delivers anatomical alignment and comfortable, functional wear—especially important for positioning adjacent to surrounding fingers.
  • The dynamic proximal ring and flexible suspension system accommodate a broad range of patient presentations. The FlexRing Entry System expands during donning to conform around the residual finger for a secure, adaptive fit that supports both comfort and function.
  • A guided measurement and ordering process accelerates delivery of custom-fabricated prostheses. This streamlined approach reduces the time from clinical evaluation to everyday use, helping patients return to their daily activities sooner.
  • Engineered for dependable everyday use, the Merge MID features durable titanium, stainless steel, and nylon components that provide lightweight strength and withstand daily wear. When service is needed, easily replaceable components simplify repairs and minimize downtime.
