Oklahoma City, Okla., April 10, 2017 – Nearly 10 years after being struck by a vehicle and instantly losing both legs above-the-knee, Yvonne Llanes promised her ailing father she’d attend a Hanger Clinic “bootcamp” for double above-knee amputees in Oklahoma City. She made good on the promise, and two months after the camp, the day after her father passed away, Yvonne left her wheelchair and hasn’t looked back. ABC World News Tonight with David Muir featured Llanes’ story, including how her journey came full circle last week, when she served as an amputee mentor at the same bootcamp that changed her life.
