Los Angeles, Calif., Nov. 21, 2017 – After a personal tragedy resulted in the loss of both his legs in 2015, Matthew Brewer faced learning how to walk all over again. A life-changing breakthrough came in April 2017, when he attended Hanger Clinic’s unique Bilateral Above-Knee Amputee Bootcamp in Oklahoma City. There he met Hanger Clinic Vice President of Prosthetics Kevin Carroll, MS, CP, FAAOP (D) and Cameron Clapp, a triple amputee and accomplished athlete, both of whom became Brewer’s close friends and mentors, and helped show him what was possible with dedication, perseverance, and prosthetic technology.
After months of hard work, Brewer appeared on the national TV show The Doctors to share his progress in learning how to walk and become more proficient with prosthetic legs, and a team of Brewer’s supporters, including Clapp and Carroll, joined him. Hanger Clinic, along with manufacturing partner Ottobock, collaborated with The Doctors to surprise Brewer with a pair of much-needed microprocessor-controlled knees, which will allow him to continue achieving his goals.
