
Grand Rapids, Mich., April 30, 2018 – On April 28, Nikki Stoner, her brother-in-law Kyle Thering, and more than 170 other attendees completed a 5K in Grand Rapids to support Limb Loss Awareness Month. Stoner, a Community Care Coordinator for Hanger Clinic, organized the event to help create more local adaptive sports opportunities, which weren’t readily available to her after her amputation 23 years ago. For Thering, who had an elective amputation in March 2017, the 5K marked the first time he was able to run since being struck by a car and seriously injured in 2001, at only 13 years old.
