Charlotte, N.C., June 20, 2018 – In April, less than a year after a shark attacked Tiffany Johnson while she was snorkeling in the Bahamas, causing the loss of her right arm, Johnson returned to the site of the attack. The 32-year-old mother of three spoke to NBC’s Megyn Kelly Today show about the visit, which reminded her how much she has overcome in the past year. Thanks to her surgeons at OrthoCarolina and her Hanger Clinic team in Charlotte, Johnson is making great progress with custom-designed, microprocessor-controlled prosthetic technology that has enabled her to be more independent again.
In June, Johnson and her family completed another milestone when they visited Winter the dolphin at Clearwater Marine Aquarium in Clearwater, Florida. Winter’s prosthetic tail is also designed and fit by Hanger Clinic. Johnson says the visit helped her young children “be able to see recovering and healing, and that Winter’s okay and that means mommy’s okay.”
