AUSTIN, Texas – Oct. 31, 2018 – The Hanger Foundation completed its second round of 2018 grants, awarding $142,400 to five non-profit organizations sharing our mission to empower people with physical challenges to live life as fully as possible. Since our first grant award to Angel City Games in May 2015, the Foundation has given nearly $1.1 million to more than 46 organizations. The most recent grant recipients include local and national organizations serving a variety of communities, including three new recipients and two repeat award recipients, as follows:
Camp No Limits (USA) – $119,900 A combination of two grants for scholarships for participants to attend two different camps: (1) Camp No Limits Family Camp and (2) Camp No Limits Teen Camp. Both are for participants with limb loss/limb difference.
Angel City Sports (California) – $10,000 Scholarships to identify new athletes and corresponding mentors who would benefit from attending the 2019 four-day event of competitions, education and community for those with limb loss.
Maine Adaptive Sports and Recreation – $4,000 Create and deliver an introductory adaptive sports and recreation three-day / two-night program for people of all ages and physical challenges, with emphasis on those with limb loss.
Adaptive Sports Program of Ohio – $5,000 Continue and expand the interscholastic wheelchair basketball program in five Ohio school districts, moving students with physical challenges off the sidelines and into the game.
Sportable(Virginia) – $3,500 Support for adult wheelchair basketball program weekly sessions providing sport wheelchairs, facilities and modest stipends to coaches, as well as travel expenses for the national competition at season end if the team qualifies.
