Grand Rapids, Mich., June 26, 2019 – When 21-year-old Fremont resident Nathan Wolford was struck by a car in 2017, resulting in the loss of both his legs above-the-knee, he didn’t know if he would ever be able to walk again, let alone travel, play the drums, or do any number of activities he loved. Thanks to hard work, determination, and the supportive community he found at Hanger Clinic’s Bilateral Above-Knee Amputee (BAKA) Bootcamp, Wolford has achieved all of the above, and now walks independently on two microprocessor-controlled prosthetic legs.
Grand Rapids journalists attended one of Wolford’s prosthetic follow-up appointments with his Hanger Clinic prosthetist Tom Welsman, CPO, to learn more about what’s next for Wolford, including studying to be a youth pastor and setting his sights on running a 5K.
