San Antonio father finds restored mobility with custom prosthetic care

San Antonio, Texas, June 25, 2019 — After falling off of his roof in 2013, 41-year-old San Antonio father of three Steve Armstrong fractured both his legs and ankles, requiring 12 surgeries over five grueling years. Armstrong’s left leg never fully healed, leaving him in extreme pain, and unable to work or continue coaching his children’s sports teams. His mobility was so limited, he could not climb the stairs in his own home to tuck his children in at night. Armstrong’s sedentary life took a toll – he gained weight, fell into depression and desperately missed interacting with his kids, who were seven, six, and three at the time of his accident.

Since going through an elective below-the-knee amputation in January and being fit with a custom-designed prosthetic leg from Hanger Clinic, Armstrong has finally found restored mobility, is able to walk without experiencing pain with every step, and all around enjoy life again – coaching his boys’ baseball team, walking his dog, beginning a daily workout, playing with his kids and waking up excited to tackle each day.

San Antonio journalists recently attended one of Armstrong’s prosthetic follow-up appointments with his Hanger Clinic prosthetist, Justin Pfaff, CPO, to meet Armstrong and learn more about his moving story. The following are some of the resulting news stories:
