INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., Nov. 17, 2021 – On Nov. 6, Cheryl Hile completed the Indianapolis Marathon alongside her husband Brian and a team of 300 virtual and in-person race participants, representing seven continents, 23 countries, and 43 U.S. states. The team, Run a Myelin My Shoes (RAMMS), was founded by Hile in 2018 to raise awareness about multiple sclerosis (MS), a disease she was diagnosed with in 2006.
At the time of her diagnosis, Hile was told to lower her expectations for running, but she was determined to stay active. With custom orthotic care from Hanger Clinic to help combat a common MS symptom called foot drop, Hile was not only able to keep running, but in 2017 became the first person with MS to run seven marathons on seven continents in one year.
With approximately 50 RAMMS team members reuniting in Indianapolis for the first time in two years, the marathon was an emotional and rewarding event.
Local media in Indianapolis and Portland, Oregon (the area where Hile currently lives) covered her incredible story:
