AUSTIN, TX- July 23, 2025- Hanger, Inc. was proud to support the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) World Congress in Stockholm, Sweden last month, with representatives from Hanger Clinic, the Hanger Institute, Fillauer and Coapt sharing their expertise in a variety of areas with attendees during the multi-day event.
Hanger Clinic Chief Clinical Officer Shane Wurdeman, PhD, FAAOP(D); Vice President of Clinical Affairs Phil Stevens, MEd, CPO, FAAOP; Research Scientist Bretta Fylstra, PhD; Clinical Research Associate and National Orthotics Specialist Eric Weber, L/CPO, FAAOP(D);Vice President and General Manager of Coapt Blair Lock; Fillauer RCD Consultant Robert Radocy; and Clinical Consultant for Fillauer Europe Eric Ramcharran, CPO all shared papers and presented on important topics in the orthotics and prosthetics (O&P) field, including:
- Advancing Measurement in Lower Limb Orthotics: Development, Testing, and Clinical Implementation of the Orthotic Patient-Reported Outcomes – Mobility (OPRO-M) Survey Instrument, a presentation on how patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) can be used to evaluate important aspects of health that may be improved by a lower limb Previous PROMs have been used to measure the effects of orthoses but have limitations like a broad population focus, scores that are difficult to interpret, and less relevant content. To address these issues, an interdisciplinary research team developed a new PROM designed to measure mobility of lower limb orthosis users. The development process and collective studies resulted in a PROM that is easy to administer and interpret, psychometrically robust, and targeted to activities of importance to lower limb orthosis users.
- More than Mobility: The Impact of Prosthetic Mobility on Well-Being, Fall Risk, and Employment, which discussed the observed relationships between prosthetic mobility and well-being, injurious fall risk, and likelihood of The symposium also included conversation about the utilization of the 12-item short form of the patient-reported Prothesis Limb Users Survey of Mobility (PLUS-M), which helps measure the cumulative benefits associated with a given intervention.
- Practical Application of Pattern Recognition Myoelectric Control in Powered Upper Limb Prosthetics, where attendees learned the practical application of pattern recognition myoelectric control, including how this form of machine learning acts as a decoder of neurological intent to provide the modern technological approach to prosthesis control personalization. The course also covered the underlying aspects of artificial intelligence that work to benefit the users’ learning process as well as foster the user-clinician relationship.
With more than 3,200 attendees representing 150 countries attending ISPO, it provided an ideal opportunity for Hanger to convene a Global Partners Summit (GPS) event. Held at the newly redesigned and renovated Fillauer Europe headquarters, the GPS united thought leaders, clinicians, and industry experts to address shared challenges, drive the development of innovative care and technologies, and elevate patient outcomes worldwide. By convening global stakeholders for Summits at ISPO and previously at Hanger LIVE in Nashville, Hanger continues to affirm its commitment to fostering collaboration across the global O&P community.
