Pacific Grove, Calif., July 23, 2019 – This month, Runner’s World profiled Cheryl Hile and how running has helped keep her physically, mentally, and emotionally fit while living with multiple sclerosis (MS). To combat a symptom of MS called foot drop, Hile wears a carbon fiber ankle-foot orthosis (AFO), custom-designed and fit by her Encinitas, California-based Hanger Clinic orthotist Ara Mirzaian.
Since her MS diagnosis in 2006, Hile has remained determined to keep running, and in 2017 became the first person with MS to run seven marathons on seven continents in one year. In November, she will help raise awareness and funds for MS research when she completes the Richmond Marathon with a group of online and virtual runners (Team Run a Myelin My Shoes), many of whom also have MS.
